On Sunday 23 April, Antwerp will play host to the 37th edition of the Baloise Antwerp 10 Miles. This year, the country’s biggest running event will be making a splash with a slightly redesigned course in the city centre. Tens of thousands of participants will run along the MAS for the first time. There has been no change to the famous and much-appreciated stretches through the Kennedy and Waasland Tunnels and across the Grote Markt.

Start and finish of the Baloise Antwerp 10 Miles are on the Gloriantlaan on Linkeroever for the third year in a row. The traditional route through the historic centre of Antwerp follows the tough but fun section through the Kennedy Tunnel with a salute to the Butterfly Palace. There are plenty of eye-catchers: the recently renovated KMSKA on the lively Zuid, the Scheldekaaien, the stately City Hall on the Grote Markt, … A nice bonus: after the renovation of the Cathedral of Our Lady, the tower can once again be admired in all its glory from the Suikerrui.

Hotspot Hessenplein

The route between Grote Markt and Waaslandtunnel will look slightly different this year. The section over the Meir will be replaced with the Stadswaag in the heart of the student district. Also completely new is the loop taking in the MAS, the iconic Museum aan de Stroom on the Eilandje. The Felix Pakhuis on Godefriduskaai, along the quay of the Willemdok marina, is another new eye-catcher on the course.

The integration of the loop along the MAS will make the Hessenplein the hotspot for spectators and supporters. Participants will pass by here no fewer than three times in quick succession, the last time they bid farewell to the Rechteroever and the Antwerp city centre and enter the Waaslandtunnel to embark on the final kilometres, making it ideal for supporters to cheer on their friends or family more than once without running the 10 Miles themselves.

More than 22,000 entries already

Obviously, running yourself is still the most fun. Registrations for the Baloise Antwerp 10 Miles – and for the Baloise Antwerp Short Run (6.8 km) and Kids Mile (1.8 km) – are coming in fast again this year. Currently, the total already stands at more than 22,000. Those who register before 1 April will receive a bib number with their first name on it – ideal for encouraging cheers along the route. Late deciders can still join too. Online registration is open until Saturday 22 April.
